21st Birthday Ideas

As the theme queen, all my friends who are turning 21 this year wanted me to give them a few ideas to make their birthday Party stand out from everyone else's. They wanted something unique, fun and memorable so here are a merge of ideas that I came up with.

The Basics

* Where

21st Birthday parties can be pretty cheap especially if you host it home in your back garden. If you do hire a hall or a club room, you must make sure there are toilets. If you do have it at home, consist of a big Projector screening the last 21 years of your life in a composition of movies and photos that will run continuously through the night and take off anyone you don't wish to be damaged and lock doors that should be kept shut.

* Alcohol

It's up to you whether you provide alcohol or it's a Byo affAir. If you have a bar at a club, make sure you have a tab limit which stops when you rich it or else you'll be left with a nasty surprise the next day. If you're in your backyard, fill big tubs or coolers with ice to allow the alcohol to be kept cold.

* Non-alcoholic

For those not drinking alcohol, for population under aged or for population seeing for something to mix with their alcohol, juices and soft drink are great and a remarkable alternative for when the tab runs dry. Buy cans of drink in bulk to avoid having lots of plastic cups everywhere and fruit juices are pretty cheap too.

* Food

If at home, have a Bbq with bread rolls and salads and abundance of finger Foods. Chips, pretzels and nuts are all the time a winner and try and avoid Foods that need cutlery. If catering, finger foods that do the rounds are great and also means less clean up with no cutlery and paper plates.

Themes

The Rubik's Cube Party.

A Rubik's Cube Party is a Party where you have to Dress up in dissimilar colours of the Rubik's cube (red, white, yellow, green, blue, orange) and by midnight you have to have swapped with other population until you're Dressed all in one colour. It's quite amusing seeing guys squeezing into girls' shirts/skirts and everyone swapping shoes to get the right colour resulting in a lot of confusion. It sorta goes without saying that you don't wear your favourite shirt unless you don't mind losing it. Award prizes at midnight for the best Dressed/sexiest dressed/worst dressed etc and make sure you take abundance of pictures!

The Masquerade Ball

Want to undoubtedly dress up? Then a Masquerade Ball is excellent where everyone must wear evening atTire (suits for the guys and dresses for the girls) with colourful masks. Hire a hall and decorate in one or two colours with abundance of balloons and streamers and hire a Dj that will not only play the latest stuff but also something to waltz too. Give out prizes for not only the best mask but also the best dancer, best couple, worst dressed etc.

Alice in Wonderland

Take a trip back to your childhood and into the past with all your guests dressed up as Alice in Wonderland characters. Dress up as the Mad Hatter or the Cheshire Cat and hold the party in a room decorated as a Victorian Gin room with black and white photographs and "servants" that will serve drinks and finger foods.

Pirates vs Ninjas

Either dress as a pirate or a ninja and have a face off with water balloons (best done outside) and drink "ale" "grog" and "sake." Decorate the room with seafaring objects like pirate hats, flags and boats. For food cut up sandwiches to look like throwing stars and have a roast pig (or other joint of meat unless you're vegetarian) rotating over a fire. Have a treasure hunt with a pot of chocolate gold to be found! Yum!

These are just 4 ideas that will hopefully help you out when planning your big day. Be creative and add your own individual spin and Enjoy Yourself!

Happy Birthday!

Cocoa Nibs

Cocoa Nibs

Cocoa nibs are roasted cocoa beans separated from their husks and broken into small bits, not yet crushed or ground, not yet transformed into unsweetened chocolate or processed into smoother or more refined forms of sweetened chocolate. Naturally put, nibs are cocoa beans on the brink of becoming chocolate and, as such, they are a unique and arresting new ingredient. These miniature delicacies are a delightful treat for the adventurous.

Nibs are even crunchier than toasted nuts, and unsweetened, manufacture them relatively bitter so they may take some adjusting to. You will find some nibs to have a sweetness and fruitiness and others will be nuttier. Some will be very astringent and some will be tart. If you are a taster, you will consideration more flavors than you ever imagined were in chocolate, such as banana, peanuts, pineapple, lemon peel, cherries and coffee. But do not make the mistake of thinking nibs will act like chocolate chips!

Some of the uses for nibs are to grind some nibs with your coffee beans before manufacture coffee; sprinkle nibs, as you would toasted nuts, on a straightforward salad of field greens Dressed with good olive oil and red wine vinegar; add nibs to Bolognese sauce; make your popular chocolate chip cookie formula but omit the chocolate chips; sprinkle nibs on bread and butter; sprinkle with sugar if desired; sprinkle nibs over ice cream. My personal popular is to mix the nibs with salted nuts of assorted kinds and add in bittersweet chocolate chips for a trail mix of sorts!

As I all the time say, "A balanced diet is chocolate in everything!"

Chocolate Fudge has all the time been my beloved candy. It's a very rich candy though, so I have all the time petite myself to production it only at Christmas time. Finally, about 20 years ago a friend of mine gave me some fudge that she had made for Christmas. Eureka! This was the fudge I had been looking for all of my life! What was even best is that my friend didn't mind sharing her recipe, and ever since then, I have made some batches of this fudge every year for Christmas and it has all the time turned out perfect.

The excellent Chocolate Fudge Recipe

    Follow these directions and you'll make creamy and yummy chocolate fudge every time. This method makes 5 pounds of fudge, unless you make it without nuts, then it's 4 pounds. Ingredients You Will Need:
  • 20 oz. Hershey's milk chocolate bars - I buy the big ones that are all the time on sale at Christmas time, but any size will do, just make sure it adds up to 20 oz. If you like darker fudge, substitute some or all of the 20 oz. With the semi-sweet chocolate bars.
  • 1 cup butter (not margarine!), softened to room temperature. Also, a petite extra butter for your pans.
  • 1-12 oz. Holder of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Use a good brand, as in Nestle's, Hershey's, or Ghiradelli. If you prefer lighter fudge, use milk chocolate chips.
  • 4 cups granulated sugar.
  • 1 and 2/3 cups evaporated milk
  • 2 and 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla, use the real stuff
  • 1 pound of nuts, chopped

In your large stainless steel bowl, break up the milk chocolate candy bars and the butter into small pieces. Pour in chocolate chips and set aside.

Grease your pans with butter. You'll need two 9x13 inch flat cake pans, but you can use smaller or larger pans depending on what you have available, and how thick you want your fudge to be. It's best to have a incorporate of extra smaller pans ready just in case.

In a large saucepan or pot, incorporate sugar, evaporated milk and mini marshmallows. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Tip: Don't scrape the sides of the pot when you are stirring, it tends to make candy taste grainy.

Cook and stir at a light but steady boil for 7 minutes. You might see some brownish bits floating around as its Cooking. This is normal. Take off from heat, pour over butter and chocolate in your bowl.

With a wooden spoon, stir until melted and well blended. Continue to stir until candy loses some of it's shine. (The shine should go from a shiny, high gloss to a matte gloss). Stir in vanilla and nuts, if desired.* Pour into buttered pans. Cool thoroughly before cutting into pieces. Use a knife dipped in hot water for cutting.

*If you don't want nuts in your fudge, this is where you leave them out. If you want to make a pan of fudge without nuts, then first stir in the vanilla, then pour how much you want without nuts into a pan, and then add nuts to the remaining fudge. You'll need to adjust the estimate of nuts then. For example, if you're production half of your fudge without nuts and half with, then only use 8 oz. Of nuts.
